Upgrades for local roads

2018-06-12 06:00

A multi-million rand road construction project is underway.

The City of Cape Town has invested more than R8m in two different road projects aimed at upgrading various roads in the suburb.

The projects are expected to be completed in July.

Local councillor Brian Watkyns says the roads in question were identified through public participation.

“Priority of the roads was identified from public complaints, and a pavement management survey conducted in Pinelands in 2017. The condition of the existing roads includes very dry surfacing in excess of 20 years old, isolated base repairs, potholes and undulations.”

The locals are requested to be patient and accommodating during construction.

The first project is valued at R5.63m and consists of removing and replacing the existing surfacing with hot-mix asphalt on Union Avenue from Central Square to Avonduur and St Stephens roads.

The other project, worth about R3.89m, comprises resurfacing the following roads with hot-mix asphalt:

.Glen Roy Road from Forest Drive Service Road to Brookdale Avenue

.Brookdale Avenue from Glen Avon Road to Ringwood Drive

.Elizabeth Avenue from Ennerdale to Glen Avon roads

.Lonsdale Way from Forest Drive to 60m east of Forest Drive

.The Crescent from Forest Drive to Princess Path

.Nursery Way from Princess Path to the cul-de-sac

.Link Drive from The Crescent to Bontehewel Road
