A group of 20 residents from ward 60, who participated in a substance abuse and domestic violence course last month, received their competency certificates on Thursday morning, at a special awards ceremony held at Lansdowne Civic Centre.

The programme took place over a period of 21 days and forms part of councillor Mark Kleinschmidt’s advanced leadership training courses, with the aim of uplifting unemployed residents in his community.

“They (participants) were selected throughout ward 60 and the majority of them are currently unemployed. The aim of the advanced course was to upskill the participants to prepare them for potential employment,” says Kleinschmidt.

“The course attendees have availed themselves to Groenvlei High School to alleviate exposure to robberies en route to school and bullying. Schools and organisations requiring their assistance may contact ward 60 offices on 021 762 4894 or 021 400 3309, or email VeritaClaudine.Lesar@capetown.gov.za.”
