An extensive portion of vegetation in the slopes of Hout Bay Mountains was damaged during a veld fire on Saturday 23 March afternoon.

The fire started at 16:40.

According to the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, it is still unclear how the fire started and investigations are underway.

Carelse says 17 firefighters along with two aerial water bomber helicopters extinguished the fire.

She also says no properties were damaged and there has been no report of injuries.

The fire came shortly after Tinswalo holiday resort on Chapman’s Peak in Hout Bay caught fire on Tuesday 5 February, (“Loss for Tinswalo”, People’s Post, 12 February).
