A night vigil for 12-year-old Rubin September from Kukutown in Kensington will be held at his home in 14th Street this evening, Tuesday 1 August at 19:00. The community is urged to support the family and pray for relief from the gang violence in the area. They are advised to bring candles which will be lit during a silent moment.September was killed during alleged gang violence on Wednesday night, 26 July. His body was found the following day with a wound to his head. Verona Joseph, September’s guardian, says the pain is unbearable and the family is still trying to accept the news. “He was a very good child who liked to play with his friends in the street and would return home on time. On the night of the incident we had sent him to the shop.”September is survived by his mother, his two-year-old sister and Joseph. “We are not really a big family and losing one person is a big loss to us,” she says. The Kensington Community Policing Forum (CPF) secretary, Cheslyn Steenberg, says a delegation was sent to the victim’s home and a decision was made that the CPF and Martins Funeral Service will ensure September receives a dignified funeral. Police spokesperson, David Stemmet, says there has been no arrests made at this stage but police are investigating a murder case.
