Ward councillor election pending

A new ward councillor for ward 82 will be elected next month.

Voter registration drives in the ward have already been completed by representatives from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) at the end of September, with the vote being scheduled to take place on Wednesday 13 November.

The IEC would like to advise voters that it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which they are not ordinarily resident.

Ward 82 covers the greater Tafelsig area and the position has become vacant following the death of ward councillor and subcouncil chair, Sheval Arendse, in August.

All voting stations within the ward will be open for voting day. Operational voting stations

These stations are Tafelsig, Hugenot, Perserverance, Yellowwood and Cascade primary schools and the Nelson Mandela Youth and Family Centre.

Residents wanting to apply for special voting can also do so at the local IEC office during office hours between Monday 28 October and Friday 1 November.

Applications for special votes can also be made online via www.elections.org.za or the applicants can send an SMS with their identity number to 32249 (charged at R1).

A call for candidates has already been completed with the final deadline being yesterday (Monday 21 October).

An official list of candidates, including political and independent representatives, contesting the ward will be made available on Monday 28 October following the submission and redress of the requested applications.

Several parties have already expressed their interest and intensions to contest elections in the ward.
