Ward councillors team up

2018-10-09 06:01

Two councillors of several upmarket suburbs joined hands to take their services to the public on Friday 28 September.

The councillors, Ian Iversen of ward 59 and Sharon Cottle of ward 58, embarked on their third “meet and greet” meeting aimed at acknowledging and taking note of issues in the interest of their communities.

To achieve this they targeted two shops at the intersection of Palmyra and Stegman roads, which they have identified as the busiest spot in their area.

The councillors say they have realised informal meetings are more productive than formal ones.

“It gives the public the opportunity to have a quick interaction with their local councillor to alert us to issues that need to be addressed. We are always kept busy during our stay with people always stopping by to chat or engage with us regarding municipal issues,” Iversen says.

He says he believes residents appreciate that their councillors are making the efforts to be available to be of assistance.

Cottle further explains that their gesture allows residents to express themselves in an atmosphere that is more relaxed.

She says the positive response they have received from all three similar engagements they have had so far with local residents, has encouraged them to want to continue this programme.

Councillors advise residents that they are available to attend to municipal issues and provide the best service possible.
