The community of Lavender Hill gathered in front of the Wynberg Court this morning (Tuesday 4 April) to oppose the bail application of the man accused of the murder of Rene Tracy Roman (13).

The accused, Andrew Plaatjies (50), who faces two charges including murder, made a short court appearance in front of magistrate Goolam Bowa before his case was postponed until 25 April. He has not pleaded yet and the state is opposing bail.
Residents packed the court saying they don't want the accused to get bail.
Roman went missing on 10 March before her body was found in a bungalow a few houses from her home. She was found wrapped in a carpet and her half naked body was decomposing.
Lucinda Evans, founder of Philisa Abafazi Bethu, says they are upset with the postponement.
"The case must be done in three months. We will not be coming here to court for two years. We want a speedy trial. He must rot in jail, we don’t want him out. If he comes out the community will kill him."
