Beware of the blind near the League of the Friends of the Blind.

That is the call from Roland Joshua from Grassy Park who feels that some motorists are not aware that there are visually-impaired people in the area.

He explains that motorists need to be aware that there are drivers who care in the area and they must not be impatient when these people are on the road.

“My concern is that there are drivers who just don’t care,” he says.

“On a number of occasions there have been incidents where drivers don’t seem to realise that these people have special needs and we, as the public, must do our best to help them as pedestrians on our roads.

“They cannot move as fast as normal sighted people. I get very angry when cars behind me start hooting when I allow them to cross, even when a traffic light has gone green.

“There was also an occasion near Victoria Road when a driver tried to drive around me, almost running into the people who were crossing.

“Can’t they see that I am stopping for a reason, can’t they see the canes, don’t they read the warnings for blind people in the area?

“Please, people, be more patient and aware of why the car is allowing people to cross an intersection.”
