Members of the Lakeside Community Watch have been fighting crime in their neighbourhood, as well as giving back.

The organisation was formed more than a year and a half ago. With a number of dedicated patrollers, they can be seen driving, cycling or walking the streets to help residents who call in to report suspicious activities, break-ins, municipal leaks or broken streetlights (and railway booms) and stray or missing animals.

The organisation has been raising funds to install licence plate recognition cameras.

Awareness days, which include the sale of boerewors rolls and recruiting new patrollers and donors, have been held recently with great success.

Quiz evenings have also been a regular feature.

At the most recent quiz event held on Saturday 2 November, a special “free for all charities quiz” was held at which no entry fee was charged, but everyone was asked to bring a donation for charity which was given to the Salvation Army and Tears.
