A group of women have gathered outside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court this morning to protest against the bail application of a Westlake man accused of stabbing his wife to death.

The protest has been organised by Progressive Women of Westlake who are calling on the courts to not be lenient.

The mother of three was allegedly stabbed in full view of the community by her husband and residents claim he had been abusive towards her.

Community leader Vusumzi Nelani says they are opposing bail and they want this matter to be looked at urgently. “This is a very sad case. This is what happens to many women and if the court is lenient this abuse will continue so we want the court to take this case very serious.”

Kirstenhof police spokesperson, Sergeant Deidre Solomon, confirmed that the husband has been arrested for the murder and investigations are underway.
