“Where is

What has happened to our postal system? When Mark Barnes came in with much fanfare, we all hoped it would improve and we could once again expect reliable postal delivery. I subscribe to an expensive weekly news magazine in the UK and the last edition I got was in early May. I have checked with others and it is no different.

The retirement village where I live has approximately 175 cottages and day after day, the post boxes of all the residents are empty. I refuse to believe this is the acceptable norm, but where is all the undelivered post sitting? I searched on Google for Mr Barnes’s email and it was returned as ‘mail delivery failed’. Who should I contact about this abysmal situation? Already Amazon has refused to deliver books to South Africa and it will not be long before others follow suit.

Time was in the early days of the 1900s when one could put a penny stamp on a letter in England and it would be delivered without fail the next day. We are truly going backwards in our so-called service delivery. Not everybody has a computer but many of us have long since stopped sending snail mail or birthday cards because of lack of delivery. I recently had a registered letter sent to me from England dated 30 April and it reached me in the third week of June! This with priority handling and registration on the envelope. Surely we expect better.
