A woman was killed in a hijacking in Westridge on Wednesday 20 July.

At 21:40, Elenor Wyngaard (46) returned to her Tennessee Street home after a night out when she was attacked by two hijackers.

Wyngaard had gotten out of her car to open a gate when the two men attacked.

Police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams says: “Mitchell’s Plain police received a complaint of the hijacking of a white Toyota Etios from Tenesse Street, Westridge. On their arrival they found a woman who was hijacked and fatally wounded. The victim was shot twice – once in the chest and once above the right ankle – and was declared dead on the scene.”

Wyngaard, a bubbly and friendly person, had many friends and her death sent shock waves through the community.

The family was home at the time of the incident and alerted authorities to the incident. Paramedics attempted to save her, but were too late.

Since the attack, several messages of support and condolences for the family have been streaming in on social media. A second post has also been making the rounds on chat apps to intensify the search for her car and those responsible for her death.

Police are investigating a murder case and a case of hijacking.

At time of print no arrests had been made. The car, a white Toyota Etios, had not been found yet either. The car’s registration number is CA 572 384.

V Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the investigating officer, Detective Constable Bradley Schuurmaan, on 021 370 1619.
