Woman nabbed for drugs

A 38-year-old Hanover Park woman was arrested by Metro Police officers while she was trying to flush down 69 dagga stoppe in her house toilet.

This was revealed in a statement by the City of Cape Town on Monday 22 July.

According to Lance Goliath, spokesperson for Philippi East police, the suspect appeared in Athlone Magistrate’ court on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Goliath said: “A stern message is being sent out by police that no one is above the law. Police is praising the community for their constant support in the fight to eradicate crime and bring the perpetrators thereof to book. Members involved in effecting the arrest and members tasked with the investigation are being thanked.”

Metro Police Department spokesperson, Ruth Solomons confirmed that the suspect was arrested and is in police custody at Philippi East Police Station.

The arrest was made during random searches by Law Enforcement officials during the weekend of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 July.

According to the statement, the officials made 447 arrests in various areas for a number of offences.
