Steenberg police officers, who were busy with an intelligence operation, arrested a woman for the possession of an unlicenced firearm, ammunition and a prohibited firearm last Wednesday in Lavender Hill.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says the officers followed up on information about an illegal firearm at a house in Shepherd Way.

“They went to the house and, after searching the premises, they found a black 9mm Pietro Beretta pistol with the serial number filed off and 105 9mm rounds of ammunition.

“A 26-year-old woman of Lavender Hill was arrested for the possession of an unlicenced firearm, ammunition and a prohibited firearm.”

She appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
