In celebration of women and in commemoration of Women’s Month, female police officers joined female Law Enforcement officers in a special operation on Friday from 08:00 to 13:00.

The officers are all from the Mitchell’s Plain policing cluster and participated in the Operation Basadi roadblock in AZ Berman Drive.

The aim was to address crimes such as street robberies and traffic violations, and to curb the transportation of contraband such as drugs and firearms in the area, but also to create awareness of crimes against women and children such as domestic violence and sexual offences.

During the roadblock 300 vehicles were checked and 92 vehicles were stopped and searched.

Of these, 36 traffic fines were issued with a total value of R39 000, while 400 pamphlets were distributed
