Cape Town - A 19-year-old resident of St Simon Street, Lavender Hill appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly killed his cousin and buried him in the backyard of the house.

The murder apparently took place on Friday last week. Residents got a rude awakening on Monday as police officers combed the area after they heard about it.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says the man confessed to someone that he had killed his cousin.

“The witness contacted Steenberg police and took them to the man, who again confessed to the police. The man pointed out where he had buried the body.

“The man was escorted to Steenberg police station for his safety and the body of the deceased was dug up by the police.

“The body of 37-year-old Llewellyn Petersen of St Simon Street was found where the man had pointed it out to the police. A confession statement has been obtained, confirming the incident, and 19 and 25-year-old suspects were arrested,” he says.

Both people appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the motive might be a family feud.

Anyone with information on the murder should call Steenberg police on 021 702 9000.
