Youngster arrested for station shooting

Manenberg police have arrested an 18-year-old man for killing a 43-year-old man at Heideveld station last Sunday.

Captain Ian Bennett, Manenberg police’s spokesperson, says a group of men were sitting on the steps of the entrance to the station when the suspect walked up to the group and fired several shots at them, killing the 43-year-old man in the process. “He was hit twice in the back of his head,” says Bennett.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and then disposed of the firearm in the area.

The Manenberg police gang task team started their investigation by interviewing several witnesses, which led to the recovery of the firearm and ultimately the arrest of the 18-year-old.

“Manenberg detectives are highly skilled investigators. The people who are involved in criminal activity will be tracked down and brought to book,” Bennett warns.
