Youth to set stage on fire

Artscape Arena Theatre will play host to empowerment initiative Fostering Fever, on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July, that will showcase 12 young artists, accompanied by an equally young and talented seven-piece band, each presenting their creative journey against challenging odds.

Each show will include the first-hand retelling of the real-life stories of each of these artists on stage, depicting what happens in their neighbourhoods.

Mentored by one of South Africa’s premier entertainment pioneers, Sophia Foster, the cast will present two performances supported and guided by both Sophia and the highly respected artist and musician Celeste Williams, who is the show’s musical director.

Award-winning stage and film actor Jody Abrahams has thrown his support and experience behind the foundation and will be directing the show.

Through the involvement of the Fostering Foundation in the Youth Jazz Festival, held in March at Steenberg High School, Sophia auditioned singers and dancers. Out of that experience, a group of girl dancers was enrolled into the Fostering Foundation and will appear as part of the Fostering Fever showcase.

The band members were sourced through the Celeste Williams Development Project, which is focused on the development of previously disadvantaged young musicians of the Western Cape.

“Local support is fundamental in providing a platform for the development of our youth within the arts. We need to ensure that the talent of our kids is encouraged, appreciated and showcased whenever the opportunity arises,” Sophia asserts.

“We are truly grateful for the opportunity that Artscape has afforded us, enabling dreams to turn into reality through the Fostering Foundation initiative.”

V Fostering Fever shows start at 20:00. Tickets cost R120 each and are available directly from Computicket.
