A drug bust operation on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June by the Metro Police resulted in a number of arrests in various areas in the city.

According to a City of Cape Town media statement, 115 people were arrested for various crimes, 95 vehicles impounded and 4 474 fines were issued for various offences.

The arrests included: 67 people for driving while under the influence; 27 for outstanding warrants; 15 people for reckless and negligent driving and six others.

A total of 20 of these arrests were made during illegal street racing operations in the Athlone, Mitchell’s Plain, M3 areas on Saturday 29 June.

“One of the drivers produced a breath sample that was more than four times above the legal limit.

“Of the drivers arrested, seven were arrested for reckless and negligent driving and taken into custody in the Mitchell’s Plain area,” the statement read.
