11 arrested in crime prevention drive

RECENTLY appointed Vispol Commander at the Scottburgh SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Linda Chiliza, led about forty women and men in blue in a crime prevention drive under the auspices of Operation Fiela (sweep) on Saturday night.

The team performed saturation patrols and stop and search operations in various localities within the Scottburgh policing precincts. Lieutenant Colonel Chiliza, the operational officer, briefed the members during a parade at the police station at 6 pm, explained what was required of them and the crime prevention strategies that were to be employed.

Scottburgh police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said the members were enthusiastic and, within a few hours, had made successful arrests.

“They arrested eight people for being in unlawful possession of dagga, two for the possession of heroin (whoonga) and one for the possession of a dangerous weapon (knife). They all appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 18,” said Pandarum.

“Lt Colonel Chiliza thanked and commended the members who worked in the operation, including members of the Scottburgh SAPS, Scottburgh Task Team and the Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC), for the successful arrests and seizures. The public can rest assured that there will be more such operations in the future,” said Pandarum.
