2016 People’s Council to be held in Betania

2016-05-05 06:00

HIBISCUS Coast Council took a decision to host the annual People’s Council on 31 May at Betania, Ward 3 in Cluster 5, in line with the principle of affording an opportunity for the community to witness the proceedings of the council meetings and thereby taken through the process of decision making.

The hosting of the council is also in line with the terms of Section 16, Chapter 4 of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act, 2000 (Act No. 32 of 2000) which prescribes that the municipality must develop a culture of municipal governance that complements formal representative government with a system of participatory democracy.

Previously the People’s Council had been held at Cluster 2, 3, 6 and 4 since its inception in 2012. In line with the municipality’s initiative to exercise extra financial prudence this meeting will be held at a municipal hall, thereby cutting costs of hiring a marquee. In addition the municipality will ensure that only the absolutely necessary items will be procured for this sitting.

The municipality would like to extend the invitation to all members of the community, especially of the affected host cluster to attend.
