A nation held at ransom

2015-09-10 06:00

THE infantile ranting by a group of protesters seeking publicity to stop our rugby team from participating in the prestigious Rugby World Cup highlights once again a very narrow mindset. In as much that while no one denies the imbalance in the composition of the selected side on “merit” a more concerted effort should be made in arresting the spiralling crime rate in this country.

Organised crime is rampant with hijacking, hold-ups at shopping malls, cash-in-transit heists, plus a host of serious robberies making this country a nation held at ransom with law enforcement stretched to the limits and losing personnel and sadly lives in the cause of duty. It is sad that this situation persists, instead of futile protests in highlighting the imbalance in our sporting codes, this group should garner its energy in seeking protection for the citizens of our country from the scourge of rampant crime. That is the reality.
