Another taxi boss gunned down boss killed in shooting

TAXI-RELATED murders are getting worse.

Not long ago a municipal employee from the Hibiscus Coast Municipality, also a taxi owner, was killed in a drive-by shooting.

On Thursday a taxi boss - Sandile Cele - was shot by an unknown man who fired several shots and fled.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid confirmed the shooting.

“At about 7.40pm the deceased was driving in his sedan on R102 Turton road, when an unknown man fired shots. The driver of the sedan was killed and his two passengers injured when the vehicle left the road. The injured were taken to hospital.

Wiid said a murder docket is being investigated.

Department of Transport, Kwanele Ncalane, said Transport MEC Willies Mchunu condemns this incident and is of the view that dialogue and communication between taxi associations is the only solution to peace in the taxi industry.

Ncalane said the MEC is aware that in the South Coast there are problems between local associations and those of long-distance associations and investigations on the killings are underway.

“A special unit under the SAPS has been assigned to investigate these cases and once arrests have been made, the culprits will face the mighty force of the law. At the moment we cannot speculate - we will leave it to the police,” said Ncalane.

Cele’s son was contacted for comment however, because he was arranging the funeral, was unable to give reply
