THE Amakhono Arts and Culture Festival was held over the weekend at the Bhuqu sports grounds in Bhomela.

Dudu Malinga founder of Amakhono and its partner Ugu South Coast Tourism, said the event was a huge success.

“The turnout of this event was splendid. Visitors from all cultural backgrounds experienced the beauty of the rural community,” she said.

Crafts, performances and Zulu dishes were made for patrons.

“We had different crafts made by Zulu women, traditional meals like Idombolo and Zulu beer Umqombothi,” said Malinga.

She said the festival is a way of developing tourism and business in the rural community.

Festival guest, Siya Sotsu of Margate Arts Museum, said this festival has given local artists a platform and a chance to showcase their talent
