CHANTELLE Maree, a local woman who is one of the top 25 finalists in the Mrs South Africa pageant, went to Paarl in Cape Town last week for a lifestyle challenge.

The weekend consisted of various challenges involving individuals and teams.

“It was freezing on the day we arrived. It was six degrees and we had to get ready for a swimsuit challenge,” said Maree.

“Despite the weather, I won the challenge,” she said.

The next few days entailed a fitness and a safety challenge where contestants had to change a car tyre.

“I now know how to change a tyre if I ever need to as I didn’t know before. Our team, the yellow team, came second,” she said.

The next challenge, the Schwartkopf Professional Commercial Challenge, had teams write, direct and produce a commercial.

The winning team’s commercial will be aired on Be Your Dream Show on Kyknet.

“Our team won the challenge and I’m so proud of us all,” said Maree.

Sunday evening ended of with a fashion show.

To Maree’s surprise, she received a text message saying that she, Sarah-Kate Scott (Mrs South Africa) Cathy Heaton (Mrs South Africa, second princess) and three finalists will be on SABC 3’s morning show, Expresso, on Monday.

“At first I thought I could not do it, but my husband persuaded me to do it,” she said.

Maree and the others arrived at the studios at 6am on Monday.

“I got to meet the beautiful bubbly Elana Afrika who interviewed us. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity and loved every minute of it. I got a phone call from my daughters. It made my heart melt and I felt so proud,” she said.

Maree also received a message from her parents who told her how proud they were of her.

“As a daughter you always want to make your parents proud no matter how old you are.

“My amazing husband is also very proud of me.

“You also want your husband to be proud of you and say ‘that’s my wife’ and you want to be a role model for your children. I’m so happy to say I’ve accomplished that,” she said.

She said the journey has been life-changing and she is holding thumbs on bringing the crown home in the grand finale
