SHELLY BEACH Michael Freys Fresh Meat earned a gold award and R10 000 at the Cleaver Awards for being one of South Africa’s best butcheries.

The Cleaver Awards, which have been running for 10 years, are supported by Freddy Hirsch and were launched to meet the needs of the consumer by raising standards among butcheries.

The awards have grown exponentially with over 30 000 nominations coming in from around South Africa.

“Without fail every major winner has thanked and given full credit for their success to their customers. These butchers listen to their customers. They go out of their way to provide the customer with everything they want and more. These butchers deliver a level of customer service that others can only aspire to,” said Ryan Read, master of ceremonies at the awards.

Butchers were judged according to three categories - butcheries with four or more till points, butcheries with three or fewer till points and food market and supermarket butcheries.

Nominations opened at the end of 2014.

Winners in each category received platinum awards and the runners-up got gold.

Shelly Beach Fresh Meat manager Super Shinga said they were happy to receive the award as it showed that customers are pleased with the service and the quality of meat they supply.

Owner Michael Frey said he is honoured, grateful and happy as this is the fourth award.

“This time round the Shelly Beach store made me proud as we met the criteria for the award.”
