THE time is getting closer for the start of the 15th annual Pro Deo Cycle Tour on 16 September, the aim of which is to raise funds for cancer patients on the South Coast.

Fourteen cyclists will take part, including some from Gauteng.

One of the organisers, Bennie Kruger, said 10 cyclists are from the South Coast - Kruger, Colin Mckay, Fred van Zyl, Grant Langley, Nataschka Mowatt, Mark Bolton, Dave Jenkins, Robbie Cumming, Donavan Lahner and Mike Fisher, will be joined by four from Gauteng.

“The 14 will head up this amazing 850km cycle from Johannesburg, Vanderbijlpark to South Broom on the South Coast.

“The proceedings from this event will be donated to the Pro Deo care group, which help cancer patients to feel as comfortable as possible,” said Kruger

He said they have started to save for a mini bus to transport patients to Port Shepstone for cancer treatment and for doctor’s visits, hospital admissions and more, as there are many patients who don’t have the means to get there.

The 2015 cycle tour is dedicated to his brother Jurie, who is fighting a brain tumour. He said the event is also dedicated to Lunette Brondani, a Pro Deo ambassador who died last year after battling cancer for most of her life
