Don’t pick up hitch-hikers

2015-04-30 14:55

I AM shocked out of my socks as I write this. Faith in humanity should be a good thing but since my experience one morning recently, my mindset is corrupted in believing that doing good to others may bring you bad luck.

On our way to work, my wife and I stopped at the Umtentweni traffic light and I saw a well-dressed middle- aged lady asking for a lift. I stopped next to her and before we could ask anything she jumped in pushing money in my hand, demanding that she had to go to Murchison Hospital.

I immediately assumed it was a crisis so in goodwill I drove on. She kept on talking and talking, never giving us a chance to ask anything. She then phoned somebody and told them she would be there in a few minutes. As we arrived at the hospital she told me to make a U-turn and wait few seconds.

Before I could ask why, a young man came running up to the car to her side and through the window took money from her and dropped something on her lap. After this she told me we can go. I was stunned speechless by this and as I drove off I realised I had just helped somebody to buy drugs.

I asked her what had just happened and she said she just bought crack. We were so shocked. We took her back to Umtentweni and the whole experience made me scared now to pick up any lift-seeking human. I warn the public to watch out for this tall blonde well-groomed lady asking for a lift at Umtentweni. If I sit and think now about all bad stuff that could have gone wrong I thank Jesus I’m still alive.
