EMS treat several over the weekend

NINE people from a wedding party were injured after a vehicle slammed into them at a wedding function in Margate on Saturday afternoon.

A report from the scene indicates that the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the people.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial services arrived at the scene, and after triaging, found that four people sustained serious injuries while five escaped with minor injuries.

After medics treated the injured at the scene, they transported them to various hospitals.

Later that evening, in a separate incident, a man died while a female was injured in a pedestrian crash on the R61 between Margate and Ramsgate.

The incident took place at about 7pm. Reports indicate that a man was hit by a vehicle­ and landed on the road, under three other vehicles.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the pedestrian died prior to their arrival due to the extensive injuries that he sustained.

The driver of the initial vehicle that struck the man sustained moderate injuries. After paramedics treated her, they transported the patient to a local hospital.

Two people also sustained serious injuries in St Micheal’s on Saturday after a vehicle struck them along Marine Drive.

Witnesses said that the two women tried to run across the road when the car hit them.
