THIS week the paper carries positive news from profiles to school contests to toy runs, and even a march against drug abuse.

We know that drug addiction is a serious problem on the South Coast so when an event - the march - is held, the organisers must be commended for doing their bit.

The Wild Coast Sun Mountain Bike Challenge takes place on Saturday and promises to be lots of fun for the family. The cherry on the top is that everyone pays half price to get into the Wild Waves Waterpark, so go and have some fun and support our local cyclists.

Although it did not affect us much on the South Coast, we are glad that the protest by students against a university fee hike next year is over.

There have been calls for the ANC to live up to the promises it made in the run-up to 1994 elections, that education will be free up to first year of tertiary learning.

That is no small feat. Nothing is free and a way has to be found to cover the shortfall that is going to run into billions as a result of no increases next year.
