Farmer of the Year search is on

ARE you the next Young Farmer of the Year, or do you know a farmer who is worthy of the title. Entries for 2015 Toyota SA-Agri-SA National Young Farmer of the Year have opened, and KZN’s Agricultural Union, Kwanalu, calls on young KZN farmers to enter in the hope that KZN brings home the 2015 Young Farmer of the Year title. This year’s Young Farmer of the Year will drive away in a Toyota Hilux single cab, among other prizes.

This year’s competition in October in Pretoria, sees agricultural unions from all provinces in SA put forward their most promising young farmer.

Young farmers, under the age of 35, whether they are owners or partners in a farm, male or female and are full members of their provinces agricultural union are legible for entry.

The judging and evaluation of the farmers and their agricultural practices, takes place at provincial level with applicants being evaluated on all aspects of their business including their overall vision for the future of their farm/ business.

The main features on which young farmers are judged is their management and business philosophy as well as the technical competence with which their philosophy is applied.

“We encourage our young members not to underestimate themselves and to enter this competition recognising the great skill and entrepreneurial spirit required to be a successful farmer.“Our farmers here in KZN would bring to the 2015 Toyota SA-Agri-SA National Young Farmer of the Year competition a diverse and interesting dynamic which we at Kwanalu are proud to represent,” said Sandy La Marque, Kwanalu CEO.
