Gcilima man murdered in Margate

A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Gcilima was assaulted and left for dead on Margate Beach on Tuesday.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Gerald Mfeka, police received­ a report of an assault at about 7.10pm.

When they responded to the scene, they found that it was actually a murder as the man had already died.

CCTV camera footage depicts that Bheki Cele and about 10 others were in a scuffle.

“He was then hacked with a machete. He sustained a gaping wound to the chest,” said Mfeka.

Cele’s cellphone was found near his body.

The responding officers dialsed the last number in his call log and got in contact with his girlfriend.

The officers then proceeded to Gcilima­ where they notified Cele’s family of the murder.

Margate SAPS is investigating a murder case. No arrests have been made yet.

Netcare 911 paramedics also responded to the scene, but the man had already died.
