EZINQOLENI Court recently convicted and sentenced accused Sanele Alexis Xolo (25) to 25 years’ imprisonment for assaulting and killing his grandmother, Gretta Malakeni Xolo (83).

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said the accused assaulted and killed the woman when she wouldn’t give him money.

“The accused demanded money from his grandmother and she refused. He then kicked her all over her body and punched her and she fell to the ground. Xolo allegedly then went around the house and took a hoe which he used to beat the old lady on the face, head and body,” said Mfeka

The accused’s brother tried to stop him but he was also assaulted and sustained internal injuries.

Ezinqoleni police were informed and they attended the scene and found that the old lady had died.

Mfeka said the accused was then arrested and a murder case was opened.

“Constable Nokulunga Philile Zangwa investigated the murder case. The accused appeared at the Ezinqoleni where he was sentenced by Magistrate Ngesi,” said Mfeka.
