Hefty sentence for rapist

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the rape of a six-year-old child.

Mandla Spikile Msomi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The case was heard at the Scottburgh Regional Court recently.

Detective Sergeant Beatus Cele, attached to the Family Child and Sexual Offences Unit in Port Shepstone, took over the docket for investigation.

The girl was returning from school in Qwabe location, Msinsini last May when Msomi approached her at her home.

He then took her to an outside toilet where he raped her. Later that day, Msinini police arrested him and after numerous court appearances, he was finally convicted and sentenced.

Cluster commander, Major-General Thembi Ndlovu welcomed the sentence and praised Detective Sergeant Cele for his thorough investigation which played a major role in the conviction and sentence
