HIBISCUS Kennel Club held an open show on 21 June which was well attended by local handlers, and dog handlers from Durban and beyond, and we thank them for their support. Club members did well on home ground and we thank Taryn Murphy and Kay Sargent for their courses. We also thank Murphy for not being deterred by the weather and staying on to assist members and their young dogs on the Monday.

Jenny Robertson and Jodie obtained two first positions - one with a qualification. Jane Cruickshank and Mackie had a first. Ninette Smith went home loaded with rosettes as Swish managed a first and a second, Glitz a first and a third and Sparkle a first.

Bernice Smit and Mindy had two first positions and a third and Sheldene Smit and Chloe achieved a first - well done.

On 11 July, club members were tested for Canine Good Citizen qualifications in both silver and gold. Prior to these tests we trained at roadwork, table manners and sending them to bed so lessons have been varied.

On Saturday 18 July we once again deviated from the norm and had a double birthday party for Joy Botha and Jane Cruickshank. Dogs were tethered while their handlers had tea and for the most part were quiet and obedient as all well-trained dogs should be.

Congratulations to Joy Botha who has just celebrated her 80th birthday and Sue McCay for qualifying for the Interprovincial Carting Championships in Bloemfontein the weekend of 6-9 August. We wish them the best of luck and warm weather.

Hibiscus Kennel Club meets at the Port Shepstone Borough field on Saturdays at 3pm. We offer obedience agility carting and flyball classes and invite anyone with a dog to join us. - Supplied
