I won’t be back

2015-07-23 06:02

AFTER spending the school holidays on the South Coast, I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

I think people over there have the biggest chips on their shoulders and I have never experienced anything like it anywhere in South Africa or the world.

On the night we arrived in Margate on 27 June, my car, with a Gauteng registration, had a major mechanical problem which meant I had to use a friend’s car to get around for a week. My friend’s car has an NPS registration.

Everything was okay until we got our car back from the servicing agents and all hell broke loose because I noticed a drastic change in the way locals treated us on the road.

Drivers seemed to be very impatient with us, hooting, throwing arms up and shaking fists. This never happened the whole week we drove an NPS car.

Upon relating this to other holidaymakers at the same establishment as us they said this is common with local drivers.

They just seem to be bitter with people from other towns and cities.

This was very surprising because we bring much-needed business when we could have instead gone to more civilised and well-maintained areas like Plettenberg Bay or Ballito.

Another holidaymaker joked that the bitterness stems from the fact that locals know we have something to go back to. This is a clear example of bitting the hand that feeds you.

I’m not coming back.
