2015-05-28 06:00

PHUMLANIM Promotions has launched a new pageant in Port Shepstone - Face of Port Shepstone 2015. It will be for the first time a pageant of this kind is held and already it has generated a lot of interest within the modelling industry locally and around Durban.

“This pageant target ladies between the ages of 17 and 22,” said Phumlani Mzobe of PhumlaniM promotions

Port Shepstone has displayed enormous talent and potential for growth for the youth, but there are still not enough platforms for the youth to unleash their (academic, cultural, artistic, sports) potential.

The beauty and fashion Industry is one of the industries that are growing rapidly and thus The Face of Port Shepstone project aims to capitalise on this industry by unleashing the beauty of Port Shepstone in every essence of the word. Not only on the beauties in Port Shepstone, but on the South Coast as a whole. This initiative will be instrumental in increasing awareness about our beautiful Coast and attracting more tourists especially domestic tourism.

“This is imperative as Port Shepstone is one of the most prominent contributors in domestic and international tourism in the country with a very rich history. It boasts of Blue Flag beaches which are internationally accredited for example. Such an initiative opens a platform to a variety of stakeholders to be able to collaborate and brainstorm a way forward for the South Coast and thus also promoting business networking,” said Mzobe.

The grand finale for this pageant and crowning will be held on Saturday 25 July.

The aim is help the youth to understand their role in nation building and social cohesion.

“It is important for the youth to know how to contribute to growth and development and thus improving their lives and those of others around them. A healthy lifestyle will be promoted by educating the youth on issues such as unplanned early pregnancy and the importance of education in bettering one’s life. Furthermore, we will incorporate the celebration of 20 years of democracy into this event where the youth will be educated on the history of the South Coast and exactly what it means to be liberated from apartheid,” he said.

As the founder of the event Mzobe said funding this initiative would thus mean taking an opportunity to change and enhance the lives of the youth, which will benefit the South Coast at large in a long-term basis.

“This would undoubtedly be a legit Corporate Social Investment for any business organization. We will be looking for a lady who is self-motivated, ready to inspire others through dedication in education, leadership and good conduct. The winner will receive great prizes from sponsors which include but not limited to an iPad, clothing and travelling vouchers and Hair products,” he said
