‘Legally impossible’ to revive People’s Rescue

2015-08-27 06:00

IN response to an article the Fever published on 13 August, People’s Rescue to be revived’, the former owner of the shelter, Andrihette Nicholson, wants to set the record straight.

“I am the owner of Hamba-Buya Shelter, the former People’s Rescue, which is the major benefactor of Majeki Missions,” said Nicholson.

The article quoted Alette Swart, who said she would like to revive People’s Rescue in order to house people who were now on the streets after the shelter in Paddock closed.

Nicholson said it was legally impossible to revive People’s Rescue as she had de-registered the non-profit organisation in 2008.

“I am the only person who can revive People’s Rescue.”

She added that businesses and individuals must be wary of who they give donations to.

“Always ask for a non-profit organisation number and check online of it is legit. In the current economic climate it is difficult for legal NPOs to survive,” said Nicholson
