A LOCAL mother and wife has put the South Coast on the map by becoming a finalist in the Mrs South Africa Pageant.

Chantelle Maree (33) says she had always been a tomboy until she entered her first pageant when she was 18.

“It was also the first time I bought make-up and high heels,” she said.

Maree said she then changed her mind about beauty pageants, and although she had been offered modelling contracts and the like, she didn’t have the confidence to enter that world.

“After entering Mrs South Africa, I have certainly gained self-confidence.

“I also learnt that it’s okay for me to take a break from being a mother and wife sometimes. I need time to myself,” she said.

Maree is mom to two girls, Skyla (4) and Cassie (2).

She married Lee, an architect, six years ago.

The stay-at-home-mom loves baking with her daughters so much that it turned into a project.

She and other mothers get together every month and host birthday parties for children at Give a Child a Family in Margate.

“I also enjoy gym, snowboarding and spending time with my family.”

“I’m truly grateful and honoured to have been chosen as a top 25 finalist for Mrs South Africa out of thousands of entries,” said Maree.

She said the experience has been phenomenal.

“I’ve met amazing people, made new friends, built up my self-confidence and learnt so much already.

“I’m amazed at the support from my friends and family.”

Maree said that competing in Mrs South Africa is not only about being a pretty face.

“Mrs South Africa has to be someone with a big heart that can reach out to people, motivate and inspire them, someone who is hard-working, has a passion for life and who enjoys making a difference,” said Maree.

Her favourite quote is from Winnie the Pooh: “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and twice as beautiful as you ever imagine.”

Maree is also hosting fundraisers for Cansa as part of her Mrs South Africa finalist duties.

The finals take place at Emperor’s Palace in October
