Murder case postponed to end of October

2015-10-22 06:00

TWO Sea Park men, accused of the murder of Pradeep Mahabeer (57), made another appearance in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Jean Pierre Haggard (24) and Riaan Marais (27) of Sea Park, also face charges of kidnapping, theft and robbery.

The case was postponed to 30 October where a regional court date will be set.

Mahabeer, who lived in Marburg, went missing on 2 July.

Port Shepstone detectives, who were investigating the thefts of two flat-screen TVs from a house in Umtentweni, led them to Marais.

He was taken in for questioning and Haggard was then arrested in Gauteng with the missing man’s VW Golf.

Marais led detectives to a secluded site in the bushes close to the Umkomaas River where skeletal remains were recovered and taken to the Port Shepstone State mortuary. Tissue samples were obtained for forensic analysis and the body was identified as belonging to Mahabeer
