THE National Health Laboratory Services has agreed to give staff a 6.5% increase.

This follows after the employer met with NEHAWU on Wednesday.

Last Monday laboratory staff of the Port Shepstone Hospital picketed after being instructed to do so by the union to address their demands.

NEHAWU later instructed staff to halt pickets until further notice.

“We were told by the union to stop our pickets until further notice. The meeting between the employer and the union took place on Wednesday, therefore we had to wait for feedback from the meeting,” said shop steward Terrence Mboyisa who works at the laboratory.

On Monday the staff received an email from the employer stating that an agreement of a 6.5% increase had been reached. Mboyisa said by the look of things the union agreed to sign the memo of the proposed increase
