New tariffs take effect from July

UGU District Municipality has released the new tariffs for the 2015/2016 financial year.

The municipality has emphasised that all tariffs and basic costs will be implemented on all accounts submitted on or after 1 July.

In a statement the municipality said consumers with private water connections will be liable for the payment of a basic cost irrespective if the water is supplied or not. the basic coast will be calculated by multiplying the amount used by the consumer by the amount of the basic cost.

The municipality indicated that charges for miscellaneous services have increases of 6.5%.

In the previous year the charge for reconnection, disconnection of supply was R1 027.63 and with the increase this year the charge will be R1 094.43. The municipality said charges for water supplied is calculated by multiplying the consumption of the consumer by the applicable tariff code, by the category of the consumer.

From category A to D - consumers residing in areas categorised as rural areas by the municipality, a monthly basic charge per kilolitre by amount used by the consumer per day will be paid by the consumer or owner of the property serviced by a metre is R138.65.

For consumers residing in sub-economic areas - category­ E there is a basic charge of R93.20 per 0.71 kilolitres.

Sanitation charges have also increased by 6.5% with the basic charge per unit being R269 for conservancy tank clearances per property, on the condition that there is a split of grey and black matter as approved by the municipal inspector
