PENSIONERS on the lower South Coast have contacted the South Coast Fever following claims that they will have to apply for a new card in order to withdraw their pension every month.
Pensioners say they have heard this from others and have applied for and collected their new card.
The new card is a debit card and can be used to withdraw pension at any ATM at a cost per transaction.
Sassa however, has refuted this claim saying the card implemented by Sassa in 2012 is still valid.
“There is no requirement to obtain a new bank card.
“All beneficiaries will still be able to withdraw their grant money using the Sassa cards they obtained since they were introduced in 2012,” said spokesperson Kgomoco Diseko.
“There are no charges if beneficiaries use their Sassa card to draw money from participating retailers or at a Sassa pay point.”
If pensioners linked any other card to their Sassa card, it becomes difficult for Sassa to intervene when any charges are encountered or disputes arise from unauthorised debit transactions he said.
“We urge beneficiaries to keep their Sassa cards in a safe place and to keep their pin number secret,” said Diseko.
