PHUMLANI M Foundation hosted a schools debate on Saturday at Esayidi TVET College, Gamalakhe campus.

The debate had 25 people participating in five teams made up of Gamalakhe high schools - Olwandle and Gamalakhe Commercial High school. The other teams were made up by Mr and Miss Gamalakhe 2015 finalists.

Founder and president of Phumlani M Foundation, Phumlani Mzobe said the debate was interesting as it was based on a sensitive topic - a statement made by the leader of the DA, Mmusi Maimane, at a joint sitting of Parliament in his reply to SONA.

Maimane alleged that President Jacob Zuma is not an honourable man, but a broken man presiding over a broken society. During the debate pupils navigated their points around questions based on this statement.

“The need for such a debate emanated from an observation of deteriorating levels of the use of the English language especially in schools in rural areas,” said Mzobe
