Police investigate licensing money theft

2015-11-04 06:00

POLICE are still investigating the robbery of a Port Shepstone Licensing Department staff member who was robbed while on their way to the bank to do business banking.

Its alleged that the staff member was approached by four armed men who held him at gun point, and took the money and fled.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Lieutenant Zandra Wiid confirmed that police are investigating the incident and no arrests have been made so far.

Wiid said the suspects allegedly fled in a VW polo with no registration plate.

Municipal spokesperson Simon April was contacted for comment on the incident.

“I wish to confirm that the incident did occur, although not in the manner in which it has been put on the media,” said April.

He said the municipality does not want to divulge further information about the matter only to say the SAPS is dealing with it. He also didn’t want to say anything about how money from the department is transported to the bank as this would pose a security risk.

April said the municipality will assess the current manner in which it is done and improve where necessary.
