Pregnant woman says clinic doctor made wrong diagnosis

2015-11-04 06:00

I RECENTLY went to Shelly Beach Clinic as I am pregnant and needed to open up a file. After a wait I saw the doctor who inspected my pregnancy. She used a device to listen to baby’s heartbeat and after contorting her face for a while she told me there was none.

In a state I rushed off to see the doctor close to Hibiscus mall. She did a sonar and showed me the heartbeat and said everything was fine and that baby was alive. The doctor at the clinic was supposed to inform me that it was too early in the pregnancy for this specific device to pick up anything.

I was in such a panic I thought I had lost my baby. Apparently I am not the first person this has been done to. Can’t something be done to either upgrade the machinery or staff?

Just worried

Department of Health response:

In the absence of the name and patient number of the complainant, the department is unable to ascertain the veracity of these serious allegations and take the appropriate action.

Pregnancy is very special, not only to the concerned family, but to the nation as a whole as it is a roadmap to a new member of the family and the nation. In this regard, the department requests more information so that it can investigate the matter.

Furthermore, the department would like to advise health care users who have queries or concerns after receiving health care services, to seek further health assistance or to raise such through the established complaints mechanism of the department.

This includes raising such concerns with the management of the health institution concerned or the health Ombudsperson in the department.
