Public warned about municipality cash-for-jobs scam

2015-09-17 06:00

UGU District Municipality has become aware that in the past few weeks there has been an emergence of individuals who are posing as recruiters for the municipality and soliciting cash from the public in exchange for “a job at the municipality”.

The municipality has discovered that the so-called recruiters are going around the community requesting job seekers to deposit R2 500 at a Shoprite money market and then send their CV to the human resources office of the munici- pality.

These recruiters are also misleading their potential victims about having strong allegiance with the municipality HR officials, which has proved to be untrue.

The municipality wishes to warn members of the community against falling prey to this scam and we call upon anyone who has information in this regard to contact the municipality’s HR office on 039 688 5885 to assist with the investigation.

We also wish to advise the community that for any available vacancy the municipality uses the mainstream media and the internal vacancy circulars to advertise job opportunities.

We would therefore like to categorically emphasise that at no stage will any municipal official request candidates to make payment to secure employment at the municipality, nor will any position be offered unless all recruitment procedures, including short listing and interviews, have been conducted.

Anyone who has information in this regard must contact the municipality’s HR office, 039 688 5885, to assist with the investigation
