Queueing to commit fraud at the photocopier

2015-10-01 06:00

WE read regularly about government officials being investigated because they don’t appear to have a valid matric certificate.

This does not come as too much of a surprise to me as I cast my mind back to a few years ago when I had to have a document photocopied.

I took myself off to a well-known business that did just that and was shocked to find a queue of young people in front of one photo copying machine while a man was standing there collecting money from each individual as they took their copied sheet from the machine. I asked the assistant behind the counter what was happening and the reply he gave me left me gobsmacked.

He informed me that the man collecting money had a valid matric certificate and that the people queuing there were having his certificate copied but with their names on a piece of paper which they placed over his name so as to look like it was their certificate.

I asked the assistant why he allowed this to take place, his reply was that he was making money for the firm. When I suggested he inform the police, his reply was that no crime had been committed.

I left feeling rather disgusted with what was happening, and now I ask myself, I wonder how many of those people got themselves jobs and worked for some time before being caught out?
