Runners qualify for Comrades

ABOUT 194 runners took part in the inaugural Hibiscus Coast Ultra­ Marathon on Sunday.

The marathon, which is an official Comrades qualifier, started at South City in Ramsgate, followed the Marine Drive route, Izotsha, Gamalakhe and finished back in Ramsgate.

The runners had to choose between the 48km, 21.1km and 6.5km races. A total of 80 runners qualified for the Comrades.




1st overall: Mzwenkosi Mjaja (3:02:57)

2nd: Shingie Badza (3:03:33 - age category 40 - 49 winner as well)

3rd: Lovemore Chabata (3:08:34 - age category 35 - 39 winner as well)


1st: Seipati Peo (3:57:32 - 17th position overall)

2nd: Zandile Dunywa (South Coast Striders - 4:35:27 - 36th position and she was also the winner of the age category 35-39)

3rd: Kim Jackson (4:52:47)


Derek Van Der Spuy (4:09:31 - age 50 - 59 winner)

Bill Hogg (5:18:46 - age category 60+ winner)


Hleziphi Ncayiyana (4:52:47 - 47th position - age category 40 - 49 winner)

Naidene Stewart (6:19:42 - 98th position - age category 50 - 59 winner)

Iris Zulu (6:19:48 - age category 60+ winner)



1st overall: Xolile Gcaba (1:35:44)

2nd: Nkosenhle Mhlongo (1:42:57 - age category 40 - 49 winner as well)

3rd: Lindokuhle Ntombela (1:43:15)

Jean Nepgen (3:53:41- age category 60+ winner)

1st Junior: Fred Goodhead (4th position overall - South Coast Striders. 1:50:51)


1st: Debbie Thomas (2:02:47)

2nd: Nondumiso Ngcungama (2:07:11)

3rd:Yolandin Smit (2:20:23)

Belinda Hope (3:06:32 - age category 40 - 49 winner)

Marcelle Mclean (3:12:43 - age category 50 - 59 winner)

Carol Nepgen (3:53:44 - age category 60+ winner)
