THE Shelly Beach Lions Club held their seventh annual charter anniversary and induction dinner on Saturday at the Shell Beach Ski Boat Club.

The event featured the induction of the new incoming Lion president, past council chairman Paul Brauteseth.

This was a special occasion for all as it was Brauteseth who founded the Shelly Beach branch of the Lions having stemmed from the well-established Port Shepstone Lions Club.

The evening was attended by Lions members as well as visitors from other service clubs including Margate Round Table chairman Jaco Venter.

Outgoing Lion president Clinton Barclay, who led the club for two years, inducted another member, Carlos Duarte of Shelly Beach, into the club bringing total membership to 17.

He also presented 100% attendance awards as well as President’s Appreciation Awards to several of the club members for outstanding attendance and performance throughout the past Lionistic year.

The Lion of the Year Award was presented to the club’s fundraising director, Charles Taylor for his outstanding efforts in organising fund- raising events which included Christmas in November, the quarterly 100 Club Draws, as well as the successful catering operations at the Dezzi Raceway. Past president Charles also took the coveted wooden spoon award for “Stirrer of the Year”.

The evening’s highlight was the induction of PCC Paul who was inducted in a ceremony led by past district governor Denis Meyer of the Port Shepstone Lions Club.
